Founder - David Edwards

David Edwards, PhD is the founder and owner of Earth Bound Homes. In addition to holding a Masters and a PhD in biochemistry from UCSD, David is a Certified Green Building Professional(CGBP), a member of the US Green Building Council and a Green Point Rater(GPR), a LEED-AP (Leadership in Energy Efficiency Design Accredited Professional) and a HERS rater (Home Energy Rating Services).

By creating a company based on innovative green building techniques, David successfully combined the critical thinking inherent to science with his own passion for wanting to do work that creates a lasting, positive impact.

Research and critical thinking remain an important element of David’s life and his company. When deciding the merits of a material, for example, David ignores the hype from the manufacturer. He critically evaluates all the characteristics of the material, including its potential toxicity, durability, aesthetic, sustainability and price. The community that benefits from David’s extensive reading and research, can be assured that each new element in our homes has been rigorously researched before it was implemented and shared.

At Earth Bound Homes, David is the 'green' heartbeat of the company and assures that all company decisions are made with the utmost consideration for environmental impact. The effect of this dedication extends well beyond the walls of the company, however. Thanks to his tireless advocacy of green building techniques, homeowners and contractors across the Bay Area can attend one of dozens of lectures he gives each year. David explores numerous topics, including green building, energy efficiency, water and energy efficient plumbing, sustainability and indoor air quality.

As a certified Green Point Rater and a green building advocate and consultant, David helps builders, contractors and homeowners understand what makes a home green and how they can introduce new materials, systems and building methods. This shared knowledge helps others increase the durability, resource efficiency and sustainability of their homes and remodels.

David’s own home is the culmination of years of research into environmentally responsible design and materials. Living with his family in the home has provided David a unique understanding of what works and what doesn't, what compromises might be involved with a given green material or method, and what benefits we can realize from each item. This first hand experience is incorporated into each and every project Earth Bound Homes undertakes.

David is married to a fantastic wife and has three wonderful kids, all of whom share his ideals. In fact, his family is a big reason why he sought a career that has such a positive impact on the planet’s future.
